Why did you create this work?

The premise is about the amusing and relatable antics a child and their grandparents get up to when Mum and Dad are away. The aim was to utilise my animation practice to create believable and memorable storytelling in such a short amount of screen time and without the use of dialogue.

How were your illustrations used?

Children’s television has always been an important part of my life, fostering quality time spent with my family and inspiring my creativity early on. Willing the project to trigger nostalgia and connection in others; the plot and character design is heavily influenced by my own escapades at my grandparent’s house, and common themes from shows we all loved as children in the nineties.

What materials and techniques did you use?

I wanted to make something fresh, yet in keeping with the market, whilst still holding onto the same charm of TV shows I remember. To do this, all backgrounds were made analogue by traditional collage techniques, with somewhat unrefined 2D animated characters drawn over the top in TVPaint. I also used a sample of my younger brother for the speech at the end. These methods all amalgamated to a handmade, personal, and wholesome feel for the project, much like my influences.
